DANCING CITY

ABOUT THE ARTIST

SERGE VANDENBERGHE

Serge Vandenberghe (aka Serge Le Belge) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist. Originally from Wallonia in Belgium, he has been living and working in Cork for many years.

He began making art in the late 1980s, after 10 years of political activism in the European peace movement.

As well as painting and making surrealist objects he has been closely involved with Dowtcha Puppets (now the Cork Puppetry Company), building floats and giant puppets for parades and public events, and with the Theatre group Triangle Productions.

He was also involved in the so-called Camden Palace Hotel, a European style community arts centre located in a renovated derelict building in the heart of Cork City which operated from 2009 to 2017 without any state funding.

Serge is a founder member of the Outlaw Studio, an artist collective based in part of the old Ford Factory in Cork’s Docklands.
