Molly Sawyer is an abstract artist from Atlanta, Georgia. Her education includes a degree in Ceramics with continued sculpture study at The New York Studio School and The Art Students League of New York. Sawyer’s studio practice encompasses a broad range of materials and techniques driven by her medical challenges, which include a brain tumour and breast cancer. She incorporates natural materials such as rust, Spanish moss, lichen, and animal fleece into her work as the natural decomposition of these organic materials allow for the exploration of concepts of entropy and life cycles. These soft sculptures have been created with individual lichen pieced together, forming a newly imagined life form.
