QUEER ECOLOGY

As part of CORK PRIDE 2024 the Laneway Gallery in Cork is exploring the concept of Queer Ecology from a visual arts perspective. The exhibition opens on Sunday 28 July and runs until Saturday 24 August.

Queer Ecology is the re-evaluation of how we understand the natural world through the lens of Queer Theory which aims to deconstruct binary, restrictive mentalities that harm or devalue anything outside the mainstream. The natural world is fluid, boundless, and ever-shifting – and so are we.

Queerness is about mutualism and symbiosis. Ultimately, by imagining, and advocating for, a world where there is a sense of community and cooperation between species, we may find and create alternative solutions to environmental degradation and the climate crisis.

This exhibition brings together 22 local and international artists who create imagery that challenges conventional understandings of the natural world.
